Recyclable and compostable

From the start, we wanted our chocolate bar packaging to be as sustainable as possible with current materials and technologies. We couldn't find a printed home-compostable pouch without materials derived from fossil fuels or significant amounts of unsustainable inputs like industrial corn, so we decided to separate the printed and protective layers for now and plan to watch for more sustainable all-in-one pouches in the future.

Our current chocolate bar packaging comprises a recyclable printed paper outer pouch and a compostable metallized protective inner pouch:

Recyclable outer pouch

100% recyclable and biodegradable

Our chocolate bar's printed outer pouch is made from sustainably sourced glassine paper. The labels are paper with a biodegradable natural rubber-based adhesive and printed with water-based ink.

Did you know most paper-based labels are not biodegradable because the adhesive is plastic-based, e.g., acrylic?

Compostable inner pouch

BPI-certified home compostable

The inner silver pouch is metallized NatureFlex™ film made with 90% FSC-certified wood pulp (cellulose). It is certified home compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) with these additional certifications: ASTM D6400 and EN13432.
